Here at C&O we get questions like “Why is my computer running slow?” or “How can I make my computer go faster?” on a daily basis.  That is why we came up with “9 Reasons Why Your Computer is Running Slow” and what you can do to fix it.

1. Not Enough Hard Drive Space

If your computer is running low on hard drive space it is recommended to delete unused files or uninstall unused software.  Windows recommend that you have 10% of free disk space to have your computer running at its optimal capacity.

2. Programs Loading on Start-up

Having too many software running at one time can slow your computer down.  To increase your computer speed, it is best to only run essential programs at your start-up and only run needed software while using your computer.

3. Malware

Malware is malicious software that can corrupt your OS and annoy you with constant pop-ups. Always have your antivirus and malware software up-to-date to prevent this from happening.

4. Windows Updates

Windows updates are essential to keeping your computer running at its optimal speed.  Windows sends out sporadic updates that can not only improve how your operating system work, but it also sends updates that fix known problems on your computer.

5. Insufficient RAM

Having insufficient RAM is like trying to race a sports car with a lawn mower engine.  To have your computer running faster it will need to upgrade its RAM to be able to run at its optimal speed.

6. Defective or Incompatible RAM

Defective or incompatible RAM can slow down your computer to a crawl.  It is best to check your setting in mycomputer>properties and double check to see if all of your RAM is being used.

7. Hard Disk Errors

Errors in your hard disk can be checked by running a system scan.  It can not only check for errors, but it can also fix them.

8. Fragmented Hard Drive

Every windows Operating System have what the call a “Disk Defragmenter.”  It is recommended to run a Disk Defragmenter once a month to keep your computer running at its optimal speed.

9. Overheating CPU

Heat is a computer worst enemy.  Not only can having a hot computer slow down your computer, but it can also possibly damage your CPU chip.  To fix this issue we recommend going to a professional such as our techs at C&O to fix this issue.
