1. Make sure to enable the encryption on your wireless network. Set an encryption password in the wireless router and/or access points and enter the same password on the computers or devices when connecting to the Wi-Fi.

2. Always keep your network’s devices hidden (router, switch, access point, etc). This prevents hackers from trying to physically connect to your network.

3. Define who can access what. Be aware of which employees can access which files on your office network.

4. Create separate internet access for guests entering your network. Try to use a different virtual LAN and SID. Also, create separate wireless routers and internet connection for your guests.

5. Set up MAC address filtering. This makes it so specific computers have access to your network.

6. Get extra security by using 802.1X authentication on all areas of your network. This creates a splash page as seen at Starbucks and requires clients to put in a username and password.
