GoDaddy.com

On Monday, the huge web hosting company GoDaddy was shutdown by an anonymous hacker making millions of websites inaccessible. The outage lasted approximately six hours, but for some companies it felt like an eternity. If you have an e-commerce website (i.e. selling products online), then that six hours of downtime could have felt like six months.

The culprit known as “AnonymousOwn3r” claimed responsibility for the outage. Shortly after the incident, CEO Scott Wagner said in a statement, “The outage had nothing to do with a hack instead; it was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables.”

Even though Wagner guarantees that there was no data loss during the site’s suspension, we at C&O add extra layer of protection to our clients by backing up their data to our remote data centers to ensure no loss of any important files. Right now, there is still some confusion on who is right, “AnonymousOwn3r”  or Wagner? But soon everything will be clear and either one of two things will have to happen: GoDaddy will have to redo their security firewall like Sony had to do after it was hacked, or they will have to update their systems and hardware to prevent this from happening again.
